Proper pruning can enhance the beauty of any landscape and can make your property the envy of the neighborhood. Pruning, just like any other skill requires years of knowledge to achieve proper success. At Ballone Landscape Associates, Inc. our pruning staff is well-trained and experienced. The idea that anyone with a chainsaw can be a pruner is far from the truth. Pruning is the removal or reduction of certain plant parts that are no longer required, no longer effective and no longer any use to the plant. Pruning is done to supply additional energy for the development of flowers, fruits and limbs that are still remaining on the plant. Pruning, essentially involves removing plant parts to improve heath, and or value of the plant.
Pruning can be done at any time of the year. Contrary to belief, pruning at the wrong time will not kill the plants, but continuous improper pruning will result in damaged or weakened plants. The general rule is do most of your pruning late fall or early spring before any growth begins.
At Ballone Landscape Associates, Inc. we follow a plan. We will discuss with you the reason or purpose before any cutting is done. Making the pruning cuts in a certain order, we can greatly reduce the number of cuts. Our professionally trained prunners first remove all dead, broken, diseased or problem limbs by cutting them at the point of origin. Often, just removing this material the canopy will be opened sufficiently and no further pruning is necessary. The next step is to make any necessary training cuts. Cutting back lateral branches, the tree or shrub is trained to developed a desired shape.
